In the Navy

This pair of earrings—a custom order—gave me the opportunity to play with a colour I've never tried to communicate before: navy! Getting the blend just right was important, as she wanted it to be truly navy, not blue. One of the things that makes mosaic so unique and fascinating is the limited colour palette, unlike painters who can mix whatever colour they like, mosaic artists don't always have access to a boundless range of colour, and a yellow tile will always be a yellow tile—if it's put next to a blue tile, you won't suddenly have green. Add to this fact that I personally MUST include mosaic gold in each piece I do, and choosing the blend gets a bit more complicated, as the colours available in mosaic gold are extremely limited.
Luckily, in this case I had the client on hand to help sort through the various options and give her opinions in real life so that I could produce some wearable art that is exactly what she was after. Apparently navy jewelry is hard to find!
