Shaken

For the last couple of weeks, there has a been a swarm of earthquakes not too far from my beloved Santorini. You've probably heard about it on the news, as it's received global coverage. And while yes, the Greek government has declared a state of emergency until March 3, I remain hopeful that the quakes will lessen and dissipate altogether. Though some folks on Santorini have chosen to evacuate—voluntarily I might add, there is no official evacuation of the island—many remain, including most of my friends. While earthquakes are very unpredictable, the experts aren't greatly concerned that there is something of extreme magnitude coming, and I've been told that in 2010, the area had earthquakes of a similar nature for the better part of a year, easing in the tourist season. The nearby volcanoes, one in the caldera of Santorini and one underwater to the northeast of the island also don't so far seem affected; the experts believe that the shaking is all due to tectonic forces. So I am optimistic that the Gods will want their playground back in time for summer, and tell Poseidon, the god of sea, floods, and earthquakes, to cool his jets.

That being said, until such time, I won't be taking any deposits for my Santorini mosaic workshops that I have scheduled. However, if you were thinking of coming this year, please let me know it's on your radar so I can keep you updated. The state of emergency is in place until March 3rd, and once I have a better sense of what the situation is likely to be for the summer, I'll let everyone know.

In the meantime, my Australia tour is going really well, with stops so far in Adelaide, South Australia, and Hobart, Tasmania. I always love teaching in Australia, and this year is no exception. While most of the workshops remaining are filled up, I do have a few places left in my one day Precision Mosaic Jewelry workshop in Brisbane on Feb 22, and two places have just opened up in my  two day SMALL GROUP Precision Mosaic Jewelry in Glenbrook, NSW on March 8/9.

So everyone keep your fingers crossed for me that Santorini—and my people on it—are okay, if a little shaken.
