Five Golden Rings...okay, okay, two Golden (Ear)rings
$250 USD
'Tis the season for shopping, and baking, and cooking, and decorating...and more. For many people, while it's a time fo reconnecting with family and friends, it also brings a lot of stress. I actually started my shopping last February, as I'll often pick up things for my loved ones when I travel, but save them for Christmas. And once I got to Canada a month ago, my sister and I got started on the holiday list early, so that we could potentially avoid last minute stress.
Of course, that's never entirely possible, as in the midst of all of this I've been teaching, planning my Australia teaching tour, and trying to get some work done. All too soon, there will also be the usual packing overwhelm, as I attempt to pack a bag for two climates, various workshops, and everything I'll need for 3 months away from one of my home bases. Some of this is old hat, but honestly sometimes it feels like the whole thing is a higher level of calculus than I ever learned (not that I remember calculus anymore), and I just want to curl up in a ball and wish I had packing elves.
It's times like these though, that I remind myself that every life has stress in it, and I'm lucky to have stress and problems that I actually enjoy—like figuring out how to maximize the use of a 23kg bag while still taking everything I need. It's stress, but it's good stress, and it means I'm on the road again, which I absolutely enjoy.
So if you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed this holiday season, see if you can find some enjoyment within that stress, if you can. And if you can't, do as I often do as the time dwindles....drop things from your list. It's another level of enjoyment all on it's own.
