A Bit of Melodrama
$220 USD
Following the positive feedback I received on the navy blue pieces I created recently, I decided to work again in some darker, richer colours, and came up with this blend shown. Upon looking at the finished mosaic earrings, I immediately thought, "Well, those are a bit dramatic, aren't they?"
This of course, harkened back to something an acquaintance said to me long ago. I keep a list of amazing, funny, and poignant phrases people say to me in conversation that I want to always remember, and nine years ago, this friend said to me: "The Greeks will never be happy. We invented tragedy."
He's not wrong, though I think to specifically say tragedy is selling the Greeks short. They also invented comedy, and in reality, drama itself. Everything about this culture is simply more intense than the one I come from, and many things are done and said in dramatic fashion.
Also amusingly, when I showed these to Kosta, he immediately said, "Oh, anarchy colours!" When I told him I was going for dramatic, he countered, "Well, anarchy is pretty dramatic."
Point taken.
