Growing

14mm by 10mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver
$220 USD

In anticipation for my upcoming Santorini mosaic workshop in September, I have been attempting to grow a number of plants to beautify the work space. Kostas has always referred to it as the "roof garden" but up until last year, there wasn't much "garden", more simply "roof".

Like last year, it's a struggle, though, the growing. I'm slowly figuring out what plants work, and what simply doesn't. I think where I grew up and last had a garden, Edmonton, Canada was growing Zone 3, I'm now in 10b here in Greece! I've already lost a flowering plant (mere days for me to kill that one), a sage plant, and now I'm about to say goodbye to the thyme. I'm not entirely sure why! I think my overwatering tendency is still there, so I may have to reign that in. Yikes.

However, this year, I'm actually having more success doing my own propagation. Basil is easy, stick it in water until roots grow, then plant. I also planted the ends of green onions from the store after I used the green part, now I have green onions. Next I'm trying mint. But the most stunning ones are the baby sun roses, a type of succulent. They are so easy--simply take a cutting off a healthy plant, and stick it in soil. Done. They root almost right away, and they grow SOOO fast. So I'll probably have to plant a few more of those before my students come in September.

I'd also like to announce that I've finalized dates for next year's Santorini Mosaic Workshops! I'll be doing two workshops again this year:

June 8-14: Precision Mosaic Jewelry
September 7-13: Shag Rug/Smalti Mosaic Jewelry

All the information is on my website, but if you'd prefer a pdf brochure, just let me know and I'll send one along!
